Sheila Parkes
Sheila Parkes
Sheila Parkes was born and brought up in Scotland. She went to Aberdeen University and qualified as a solicitor in Scotland in 1981. She moved to England on her marriage and qualified as a solicitor here in January 1986. Since then, she has specialised in the area of family law and built up a strong reputation in the town as a tough but fair solicitor. She is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitor’s Family Law Association) and subscribes to their principles of dealing with family matters.
In 1996/97, Sheila trained as a family mediator with National Family Mediation and was one of the first solicitors in the town to practice in that area. She subsequently set up an in-house mediation service and obtained a Legal Services Commission contract to offer publicly funded mediation from 1999. She continues to offer mediation in all areas of family law for both private and publicly funded clients.
As with the other members of the family team, Sheila approaches cases with empathy and understanding. She endeavours to ensure that clients, be they individual family clients or a couple for mediation, understand the process and the issues that face them, providing guidance on a practical level as well as in the complexities of the law.
