Macca not Mucca!

Nick Massey-Chase, Kate Martin, Jon Coles and Sheila Parkes at the presentation

Music from the Beatles rang out at the Hampshire Court Hotel, Basingstoke today as Brain Chase Coles Solicitors entertained members of the North Hampshire Chamber of Commerce at its September Basingstoke lunch with a lively presentation about the alternative ways of handling separation and divorce.

Taking the Heather Mills and Paul McCartney case as a starting point, they gave examples of how an acrimonious and expensive divorce could be avoided through methods such as Mediation and Collaborative Family Law.

Partner and Head of the Family Law department at Brain Chase Coles, Nick Massey-Chase, explained both the traditional divorce procedure and a new “collaborative” approach, while founder of the firm’s ‘Haymarket Family Mediation’, Sheila Parkes, discussed how Mediation was a very good option for couples who could work through their difficulties in an amicable way. The team illustrated their points with entertaining role play which ensured the audience was kept on its toes!

Brain Chase Coles is one of only two law firms in Basingstoke to offer both a Mediation and Collaborative service. Also all their Family Law department solicitors are members of Resolution, a professional body which promotes conciliatory and constructive methods of resolving issues.

Nick Massey-Chase said:

“Separation and divorce are never easy subjects to handle and we aimed to make our presentation both lively and informative. I was delighted that so many members of the Chamber were able to attend and I hope that they left with a clear message that there are a range of alternatives open to separating couples, where they, not the courts, have control.”
