Nick Massey-Chase heads the Family Law Department

For many years, Brain Chase Coles has held a deserved reputation as one of the leading Matrimonial and Family Law specialists in the area. Our team has four experienced family lawyers, supported by a Senior Assistant and experienced secretaries.

We understand the difficult and often distressing problems faced by clients at the time of relationship and family breakdown and we aim to give constructive and sympathetic support. We advise clearly on the legal issues and procedures and help our clients to decide upon the most appropriate course of action for them to take.

All our lawyers are members of Resolution (formerly known as The Solicitor's Family Law Association) and follow its code of practice in approaching family disputes in a constructive and conciliatory way, with the aim of negotiating fair and reasonable outcomes, whether in the context of a financial and property settlement or arrangements for children. That said, there are times when quick and decisive action is necessary to protect a client's interests, perhaps physically, as well as financially as to safeguard the needs of a child, and in those circumstances we will not hesitate to make emergency applications to the Court.

Matrimonial and Family Law is very wide ranging. We have the experience and expertise to deal with any aspect of the law for both publicly and self funded clients, whether married or living together and whether in a heterosexual or same sex relationship.

By way of example, here are some of the types of cases that we deal with. Your situation may be covered by one or more of them. If not, but it involves a family, a relationship or a child, then we are here to help:
